What is spinal decompression?
Traditionally, spinal decompression is surgery performed to relieve pressure on discs. More recently, though, nonsurgical spinal decompression has come to the forefront.
During this therapy, you lie on a special table which gently cycles through traction and relaxation to isolate and relieve pressure on a specific disc in your neck or lower back. It is primarily used to treat herniated discs or sciatica. Nonsurgical spinal decompression is a relatively new therapy, but the studies did show it is quite effective to reduce pain caused by bulging or herniated disks and can even slow the progression of degenerative disc disease by helping restore blood flow to the damaged disc. Generally, twenty sessions are recommended (this sounds like a lot, but the significant reduction in long-term pain and degeneration is worth it.
The Nashville chiropractor may also recommend other forms of therapy, such as heat or cold therapy or massage. Massage will help retrain muscles that are used to compensating for the damaged disc into better and stronger patterns. They will also almost certainly prescribe exercises be done at home to improve strength and mobility. They will also properly screen you – spinal decompression therapy is not recommended for pregnant women and it is important to do X-rays to check for fractures, which could be aggravated. A good chiropractor will not sell you a therapy that does not work or is dangerous and will refer you to other professionals as needed.
If you have chronic back pain that is not responding to rest, exercise or other treatments, it is worth considering nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy. It is a painless therapy with few risks that is showing great promise for being of benefit to anyone with a herniated disc or similar problem causing pain in their back.
A Nashville chiropractor wants you to know that both acupuncture and chiropractic are excellent complementary methods for maintaining and improving your overall health. They both work to empower your body to heal itself without using surgery, drugs, or any other invasive methods. They are both designed to prompt natural healing, correct imbalances, and restore the body to a healthy state.
While chiropractic uses specific manual adjustments to correct subluxations throughout the spine, acupuncture uses pressure or puncture to manipulate exact meridian points in your body by the use of very thin needles.
Modern acupuncture theory holds that acupoint stimulation can create positive changes in your body’s bio-electric state that can promote healing. Acupuncture manipulates the flow of Qi (pronounced Chee) in our bodies to bring about various therapeutic effects. A Nashville chiropractor knows that acupuncture feels good, and can provide you with a deep sense of well-being and relaxation. It is also very effective for relieving chronic pain as well as helping you to lose weight.
Acupuncture has been approved by both the National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization as an effective method of addressing the following conditions: arthritis, headaches, ear problems (earaches and ringing in the ear). back pains, addictions, fibromyalgia, infertility issues, digestive problems (gastritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and ulcers, chemotherapy nausea, menstrual and female disorders, and much more.
A Nashville chiropractor will help you if you suffer from migraines or chronic headaches by pinpointing your headache’s root cause, as well as its symptoms. If you have fertility problems, it has been demonstrated clinically that acupuncture may help to increase blood flow to your uterus, as well as regulate your female hormone levels. Acupuncture combined with rehabilitation exercises can provide natural relief from chronic back or neck pain caused by sports or work-related injuries.
Acupuncture has also been shown to help to alleviate depression and anxiety. When your Qi (energy flow) is restored you may experience great relief. If you are struggling with any of the problems named above, or if you want to live a happier, healthier life, contact a Nashville Chiropractor.
Batson Chiropractic Group is a Nashville chiropractic clinic that also offers acupuncture. They provide it, most often, as part of an overall, individualized plan of care.
Acupuncture has been used for a long time, although not much is known about how and why it works – only that for some conditions it does. Acupuncture is designed to restore the energy flow to the body. This relieves the symptoms of an entire list of conditions – for cancer patients, for example, acupuncture can relieve chemotherapy nausea and restore appetite. Acupuncture is also a good treatment for female disorders, including extreme menstrual cramps. It is also good for weight loss.
Some people are of the opinion that acupuncture is “crack medicine” – but a number of studies indicate that it really is effective for certain conditions (although not a panacea). Acupuncture sessions generally last 20-30 minutes and often leave the patient feeling either energized or relaxed, depending on the treatment and their physiology. Batson Chiropractic Group only uses acupuncture on patients they feel it will benefit – on patients they believe are experiencing an energy disruption that acupuncture can correct, and who are experiencing symptoms known to be helped by the therapy.
Like most chiropractic care, acupuncture is holistic and focuses on restoring balance and wellness to the entire body. In addition, many people find the treatments themselves also reduce anxiety and relieve stress, helping the body recover from what is ailing it better and reducing the long-term impact of stress on physical health.
Patients suffering from chronic pain and certain other conditions should contact Batson Chiropractic Group and ask whether they might be a good candidate for acupuncture therapy.
